On Location Report from Sahl Hasheesh
MD Adam Cornwell and Egypt expert, Sam Mond, conducted an all-important field trip to the resort of Sahl Hasheesh last week in order to check on progress, in particular on the residential developments being offered to GEM Estates’ clients. Checking into a five star hotel, The Oberoi, on the fringes of Sahl Hasheesh didn’t seem like ‘work’ for the GEM Estates envoys but as Adam explains, it’s all part of the resorts’ strong investment appeal.
Adam comments, “The very existence of The Oberoi, part of the Indian luxury hotel chain of the same name, is indicative of the benchmark that has been set for Sahl Hasheesh. This all-suite hotel, a zenith of contemporary Arabic architecture, with its sunken marble baths opening onto private walled courtyards and glass-like pool overlooking a private beach is without doubt one of the finest hotels I have experienced to date. The phrase ‘service with a smile’ could easily have been conceived here, nothing was too much trouble. Sahl Hasheesh set out its stall as a ‘five-star plus’ resort and it’s perfectly clear that the finished product will not disappoint.”
Sahl Hasheesh which flanks 12.5km of sandy beach will, by completion in 2014, have 20 hotels (five star minimum) and eight golf courses as well as spectacular marinas, authentic Egyptian marketplaces, a cinema complex, bars, restaurants and first-rate sports facilities. One of the 20 hotels, the 240-room Kempinski Hotel Old Palace built to reflect the ornate palaces of the region, is all-but complete from the exterior yet will not accept its first guests for at least 18-months whilst the intricate interior is installed and the rest of Sahl Hasheesh mature enough to complement such a fine hotel. But, excellent news for those that want to enjoy a sunshine break and cast their eye over progress at Sahl Hasheesh, the five star Pyramisa Beach Hotel is indeed open for business and already sustaining good occupancy rates.
As for residential property construction, GEM Estates’ Desert Pearl is on target for its completion date of 15 December this year and justifiably sold out. Phase 1 of Sunset Pearl Beach & Golf Apartments is extraordinarily ahead of schedule and even at shell stage looks very impressive. The foundations have also been laid for Sunset Pearl Phase 2 and as these units have only been released for a matter of days, availability is high and now is the optimum time to buy. Phase 2 has the added attraction of being even closer to the sea, the focal point for much of Sahl Hasheesh’s activity.
Sam comments, “During our visit we were lucky enough to spend some time snorkeling in the clear Red Sea teeming with colourful fish and warmer than The Oberoi hotel pool. Our hosts also took us on the 45 minute boat ride to Mahmya National Park on the Island of Gifton. A true secret hideaway, this unspoilt yet well-loved beach offers seafood restaurants, diving facilities, a laid-back bar and is the perfect recipe for relaxation. Back on mainland we also joined the Hurghada sophisticats at Little Buddha – a sushi-cocktail bar-discotheque fusion that is proud little sister to Buddha Bar Paris. Elegant and trendy, Little Buddha is another yardstick for the image that this resort is proud to portray.
Certainly Sahl Hasheesh has taken its lead and inspiration from the luxurious resort of El Gouna, a purpose-built city 22km north of Hurghada also with a range of accommodation facilities, USPGA golf course and range of shops and eateries; but it’s fair to say that Sahl Hasheesh will operate at an even higher level.”
